Before an upgrade or reinstall

Protect your local data and license.

ACI stores application data and workspace preferences separately from the application program. Protected account settings use the operating system's secure-storage facilities. A normal in-place update is intended to retain this state.

Do not delete ACI's data folders, Keychain entries, Windows protected settings, or application profile. Do not use Windows Reset or uninstall the application as a routine update step. A license is bound to one computer; contact support before moving the application to another computer or if activation is not retained.

Keep a backup of important reports and application data before a major upgrade or reinstall.

Windows 10/11 x64

Install from Microsoft Store.

  1. Open the official Microsoft Store listing.
  2. Select Get or Install and let Microsoft Store complete the trusted installation.
  3. Open Activity Category Insights from the Start menu. Complete the first-launch steps and connect only the data sources you intend to use.
  4. In ACI, open Help > About and confirm that the version is 5.20.0.
Update

Upgrade an existing Store installation

Microsoft Store normally installs application updates automatically when that setting is enabled. To check manually, open Microsoft Store, go to Library, and select Check for updates.

ACI's Help > Check for Updates command reports availability; Microsoft Store remains responsible for installing the Windows update.

After updating, reopen ACI, confirm version 5.20.0 under Help > About, and verify your accounts, workspace, filters, and recent data.

Recover

If Windows installation or startup fails

  1. Restart Windows and retry the Store download or update.
  2. In Microsoft Store, open Library and check for updates again.
  3. If Windows offers both Repair and Reset, try Repair first. Reset can remove local application data.
  4. Use uninstall/reinstall only as a last resort after protecting local data. Reconnection or license assistance may be required.

Windows validation note: the version 5.20.0 x64 APPX was installed and functionally tested successfully on Windows 11. Continue to verify important local state after any Store-managed update.

macOS Apple Silicon

Install the signed and notarized DMG.

  1. Download ActivityCategoryInsights-5.20.0-macOS-arm64.dmg.
  2. Optional: in Terminal, run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/ActivityCategoryInsights-5.20.0-macOS-arm64.dmg. The result must be ce461b7efd264e7e00fadffdc92cf147dea9ca7342c4c56541b0a4250bada452.
  3. Open the DMG and drag Activity Category Insights to Applications.
  4. Open Activity Category Insights from Applications and complete first-launch setup.
  5. In ACI, confirm version 5.20.0, then verify your workspace, settings, and data.
Upgrade

Replace an earlier Mac version

  1. Quit the running older version of ACI.
  2. Open the version 5.20.0 DMG and drag the application to Applications.
  3. Choose Replace when macOS asks. Do not delete ACI application data or Keychain entries.
  4. Open ACI and confirm version 5.20.0, workspace, filters, settings, historical data, and account configuration.

The signed and notarized 5.20.0 application was installed and functionally tested on Apple Silicon. Preserve a backup of important local data before replacing any application version.

Recover

If macOS blocks or cannot open ACI

  1. Confirm that the Mac uses Apple Silicon. Intel Macs are not supported.
  2. Delete only the downloaded DMG, download it again from this site, and verify its checksum.
  3. Do not bypass a Gatekeeper warning or delete Keychain entries. Contact support with the exact macOS message.
  4. Do not attempt a rollback to 5.18.0 without support guidance; rollback compatibility was not validated for this release.

macOS validation limits: post-upgrade Excel export, rollback to 5.18.0, and license preservation during the manual upgrade rehearsal were not tested. These items must not be treated as verified.
